How to protect yourself from others’ negative energy.
The world is full of toxic people, most people know at least a handful.
While many people can shrug off the negativity that these people spread, for others it is much harder.
Someone who feels deep empathy, known as an ’empath’ can be greatly affected by constant negative energy.
If you often feel bogged down by the negative emotions of others, there is a good chance you fall into the empath category.
Being an empath is not a bad thing, being so emotionally open means you experience life in much richer sense.
It can just mean that you should be very selective of who you decide to spend your time with.
The following tips will help you to stop absorbing negative energy from others, and stop you feeling drained.
1. Stop people pleasing
One of the most common characteristics of an empath is that they like to make everyone around them as happy as they are. This is not an easy task when the majority of the human race are on a downer.
An empath will try to cheer their friends up and try to make them see the world in the open, loving way they do. But this is often a fruitless task – try and remember that not everyone is capable of having such a positive perspective.
2. Learn to say ‘no’.
An empath is usually a ‘yes’ person. They realize that the best way to live life is by being positive. But this often leads to people taking advantage of their good nature. Recognize that if you are always bending over backwards for people, this will only lead to you feeling used.
3. Stop ‘feeding the beast’.
An empath is a sucker for punishment. They will continue to try and emotionally help their ‘friends’ who are constantly leeching off their good vibes. Negative people feed off others, make sure you cut these people out of your life. Never again should a negative person be allowed to suck out your giving spirit.
4. Take comfort in nature.
One of the best ways an empath can recharge their batteries is by getting closer to nature. Instead of spending all of your free time with your friends and people who have asked to spend time with you, take a walk instead.
5. Remember that YOU are in control.
An empath can often feel like they live their lives purely to make others happy. Remind yourself that you are responsible for your own happiness over anyone elses. Make positive choices for yourself and this confidence will make it harder for others to take advantage of you.
