Why cinnamon is better for period pain than ibuprofen.
New research has proven that for women suffering from painful periods, cinnamon is a more effective painkiller than regular ibuprofen.
Period pain in women is a commonly reported side effect, but some women suffer worse than others, and can experience the painful condition of primary dysmenorrhea – severe cramping of the muscles associated with the menstrual cycle.
Most women take some form of painkillers to combat period pain, usually paracetamol or ibuprofen, and indeed doctors even prescribe these medicines for the conditions.
A woman suffering from period pain once a month and taking ibuprofen to ease the pain, over the course of her life means she will be consuming a considerable amount of pharmaceutical drugs.
While most people can take pharmaceutical drugs with no side effects, problems can occur if a person takes them in a substantial amount, over the course of an entire lifetime.
Stomach problems and cardiovascular complications are just two of the complications that can come with taking painkillers for years, but new research has confirmed that there is a better alternative.
Research carried out in India and published in the Journal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research revealed that cinnamon was a more effective pain relief for women suffering from primary dysmenorrhea than over the counter painkillers.
The study involved 3 groups of 38 females, who were given 400 mg ibuprofen or 420 mg cinnamon i.e. Cinnamomum zeylanicum and one group were given a starch placebo.
They evaluated that the cinnamon extract helped control the feelings of pain better than the 400mg of ibuprofen, which has prompted a call for more research to be done into the painkilling effects of this spice, and how it could help people suffering with other conditions.
When it comes to medicine, natural really is best. For every pharmaceutical drug you can buy, there is almost always a natural alternative which works just as well, if not better than the chemical drug.
Cinnamon, like turmeric is a well known cooking spice which has wonderful medicinal properties. It is known to reduce blood sugar level, help control blood pressure, and as this study has shown, effectively kill pain.
It has been used for centuries in Eastern medicine, but it’s secret has been kept relatively quiet.
But perhaps the best part of using natural drugs is to be safe in the knowledge that they have no dangerous side effects, and cannot harm your body in the same way that pharmaceutical drugs can.
